October 7

Immediately issued a statement alerting our community to the situation, pledged our support to Israel, and shared a message from our Partnership Region

Israel Crisis Fund launched, and in the months following, raised over $1 million beyond our Annual Campaign

OCTober 9

Hosted a large-scale community-wide emergency rally for Israel two days after the attack attended by 900+ individuals, including coverage by all major local outlets

OCTober 17

Federation leadership represented Nashville’s Jewish community in D.C. at solidarity gathering & lobbied elected Federal officials to stand with Israel

October 18

Responded to arrival of displaced Israelis in Nashville, helping to secure food, lodging, & other necessities

Implemented a social media training to help the community learn how to effectively communicate on behalf of Israel using digital outlets

Promoted & participated in an interfaith rally for Israel at Legislative Plaza

Presented virtual program about the situation in Israel, featuring highly respected and well-known Israeli journalist Yaron Deckel

November 14Brought 60 Nashvillians (including 15 students) to Washington, DC for the largest pro-Israel rally in our country’s history

Hosted a press conference for local media featuring the students who attended the rally in Washington the day before

Presented virtual program with former Nashville shlicha Noam Harrari, who provided a personal and on the ground report on the situation in Israel

Welcomed Professor Shaul Kelner, who had recently returned from Israel, to share a firsthand report from his trip

Funded & supported grassroots project to help bring displaced Israeli families to Nashville for 2-month respite from war; provided tuition for Akiva for their children

Presented virtual program with Ari Dubin, Executive Director of Vanderbilt Hillel, on Israel 101: History and Facts

Presented virtual program featuring Israeli journalist Nathan Jeffay on “Who is Hamas?”

Hosted “Israeli Morning Experience”, a communal breakfast event, in partnership with the Israeli families who were in Nashville for respite

Hosted a Rabbis’ Report panel featuring the nine rabbis who traveled together to Israel in solidarity

Hosted other TN Jewish communities for a “Day on the Hill” & lobbied on behalf of Israel at the TN State Capitol; successfully lobbied the governor to include the non-profit house of worship security grant as a line item in his budget

Senior leadership invited stakeholders and extended a welcome during a visit by Anat Sultan-Dadon, Israel’s Consul General to the Southeast United States, at a consulate-hosted screening of 45 minutes of unedited footage, depicting heinous acts committed by Hamas terrorists on October 7th

Hosted a press conference at Opryland for family members of hostages, inviting media, elected officials, donors and community teens

Welcomed representatives from our Partnership Region in Israel and hosted a community wide reception in their honor

Vanderbilt Campus Climate program #1 with Ari Dubin and special guest Darren Reisberg. (We have worked closely with Vanderbilt University’s leadership and with our Jewish partners on campus to combat BDS)

Welcomed His Excellency, Michael Herzog, Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S., to Nashville for a large-scale community program

Senior professional staff and lay leadership participated in a solidarity and volunteer mission trip to Israel

Planned and executed meaningful Yom Hazikaron service, with more than 150 attendees

Hosted Israel Is: Reservist Community SpeakUp Delegation to share heroic stories of soldiers, activists, and IDF reservists in person

Rabbi Dan Horwitz provided public comment to Metro Council regarding Nazi demonstrations taking place in Nashville

Partnered with Hillel International to host a webinar discussing preparation of Jewish students to return back to college campuses

Welcoming Ambassador David Siegel, President of ELNET, to speak on the manifestation of modern antisemitism in Europe and Europe’s relationship with Israel

Holding community workshops with Oren Jacobson of Project Shema on addressing contemporary antisemitism with an emphasis on how anti-Jewish ideas can emerge in discourse around Israel and Palestine.

Hosting renowned author and hostage negotiator Mickey Bergman to discuss his book In The Shadows: True Stories of High Stakes Negotiations

​

Additional Community Relations Outreach Since October 7th:

  • 7 corporate antisemitism trainings - Responded to 10 reports of antisemitism from schools and community members

  • Provided public comment at 2 Metro Nashville City Council meetings

  • Spearhead security and law enforcement relationships in our community

  • Meet quarterly with law enforcement officials, including MNPD, TBI & FBI

  • Partnered with law enforcement agencies to educate about hate crimes

  • Immediately developed & implemented media outreach plan for all local press contacts

  • Front page coverage of Israel on every issue of the Jewish Observer since October 7

  • Federation leadership wrote and submitted multiple op-eds for publication in the Tennessean

  • Over 2 dozen interviews and appearances on broadcast media and print publications
