In Memorium

Ariel Sharon

(February 26, 1928 – January 11, 2014)

On behalf of the Jewish Federation of Nashville and Middle Tennessee, we offer our deepest condolences to the family of Ariel Sharon and the people of Israel on the passing of Prime Minister Sharon. Ariel Sharon was perhaps the staunchest defender of the State of Israel and along with the late Yitzchak Rabin, he was a great seeker of peace with Israel's enemies. He was both a warrior and a diplomat who pursued a bold vision that was aligned with his most deeply held commitment, the safety and security of the Jewish State and the Jewish people.

Ariel Sharon was in every respect a great leader. He took risks both in effecting military strategy and in actions to secure peace that others would not take. For Ariel Sharon, the entire nation of Israel was his family and he willingly, even knowing the burdens, did everything within his power to ensure the next generation of his family would inherit a nation that could fulfill the most profound dreams of centuries of ancestors, a Jewish Homeland for all eternity. That is Ariel Sharon's legacy and we are deeply indebted to him for his service and for the love and caring with which he blessed his country and Jews everywhere.

May the memory of Ariel Sharon always be a blessing and may his entire family, every one of us, be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
