FEDERATION COMMITTEES

People from a broad spectrum of our Jewish community participate in a variety of Jewish Federation committees that address issues that affect all of us.  Each committee is staffed by a Federation professional who brings knowledge and expertise to the table to help implement the members’ proposals and ideas.

THE ALLOCATIONS COMMITTEE involves a cross section of community members to determine how dollars raised in the Annual Campaign can best be spent to carry out the goals of the community. Thirty-three local, national and international agencies received allocations from the Annual Campaign.  The Allocations Committee, which includes representatives of the Jewish Foundation, recommends distributions to the full range of services and programs, which help to meet Jewish needs wherever they may be.

THE COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE addresses the issues in the local, national and world communities that affect us as Jews.  We are the pro-active voice of the Jewish community.  CRC's agenda includes Anti-Semitism, Israel and the Middle East, religion in the schools, community coalitions, justice, legislation, media relations.  We contact members of our Jewish community, urging them to let their legislators, public officials and/or the media know how we stand on a variety of impending issues.  And we rely on the community to keep us informed of problems that may arise in their daily lives.

THE INVESTMENT COMMITTEE guides the investments of the Federation as well as The Jewish Foundation.  It sets the guidelines and goals for financial management and each year determines the asset strategy for producing growth and stability for the funds.

THE JEWISH EDUCATIONAL SERVICES COMMITTEE (JES) distributes grants to congregations for family, adult and religious school programs.  Scholarships are available for children who want to attend Jewish summer camps and to teens who participate in programs in Israel.  Our children are the ultimate beneficiaries when stipends are given to religious schools and Akiva Day School teachers to attend educational workshops to expand their knowledge and teaching skills.

THE OBSERVER EDITORIAL BOARD, through the formation of policies and guidelines, helps the Observer, the Jewish Federation’s community newspaper, better serve our needs.  The board members are business people, homemakers, professionals and community volunteers, each with a unique perspective to guide the editor and advertising manager in publishing a newspaper tat is filled with news of local people and events as well as national and international events that have an impact on each of us in Nashville.
